This fall we took a trip to Brown County, Indiana. What was suppose to be a guys weekend turned into weekend trip for us and a few of Brad’s friends. This was my first visit to Brown County (only my second visit to Indiana), but Brad’s family used to visit every summer when he was growing up. He has some great memories of family trips to Brown County and I was excited to go.
Our first stop was to the Brown County Winery. The winery is part of the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail and has some great sweeter wines. The winery has a cute tasting room with a lot of great wine-related knickknacks, specialty preserves, mustards and dips and a very friendly staff. We bought a couple of Brad’s favorite, Autumn Red and a bottle of Autumn White which we drank during the weekend.
We spent part of our Saturday in Brown County State Park. Here we took a hike around part of Ogle Lake and almost got caught in the rain! The hiking trails here were much different than the park we go to while we’re at home. They were very hilly and very narrow. We were hoping to get to see the park covered in beautiful autumn colors, but it turned out autumn came earlier for Indiana this year than it did in PA. Overall, we had a great time in in the park and I’m sure it would be even nicer to be there when the weather was a little bit warmer and dryer.
Our last day in Brown County was spent in the Village of Nashville. Nashville is a cute little town filled with restaurants, cafes, candy stores, antique stores and a variety of other locally owned stores. There are a huge variety of stores here and I know if we weren’t going on a plane I would have been buying much more. I’m pretty sure I could have gotten half of my Christmas shopping done here! We had lunch at the Nashville House Restaurant which had some AMAZING homemade apple butter and also got a bunch of yummy snacks in between window shopping.
Brown County really made for a great weekend trip and allowed us to spend some time with friends that we don’t see very often. It would be great to go back in the summer when the weather is a little warmer!
