Two weeks ago I came across a Groupon for twenty boot camp classes at a local gym called (The Gym) near our house. We have been trying to step up our exercise routine and diet to shed a few extra pounds before the wedding and somewhere is my mind I thought, “Hey, this will be a good idea” and no, I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m pretty sure some sort of parasite was invading my body. I am not exactly known for volunteering to workout ever, but we already bought the Groupon so there is no going back now!
So far we have attended three of our twenty boot camp sessions and it is seriously the hardest workout I have ever done! Each session is one hour long and we go through a crazy circuit with a variety of cardio and strength training workouts. I’m sure it’s no different than any other boot camp class and I probably don’t need to go into detail about what we do, but it really is a great atmosphere for working out. The trainers are very encouraging without being demanding or yelling at you and the other people in the class are all really friendly and encouraging. It may just be my cynical, New Jersey mentality, but I never stop being surprised by how friendly people are around here and boot camp class is no exception.
Now according to Brad, nothing compares to real boot camp unless there are guys screaming and kicking sand in his face, but luckily our boot camp is not at all like that! I can tell you that after class I am still ridiculously sore, completely exhausted and covered with sweat from head to toe by the time we leave, but I have to admit that after just three classes I can certainly notice that I have a lot more stamina and my lungs don’t feel like they are going to explode through the entire class. I don’t think I will ever get used to the crazy boot camp workouts (which is kind of the point!), but I think I could eventually get a lot more into them. It’s a shame that the regular prices for the classes are far more expensive than the introductory Groupon price and that the gym affiliated with the classes is ridiculously expensive compared to Ballys/LA Fitness.
On the up side, our home gym has been adding a lot new classes including a boot camp class and a total body conditioning class. I think once we have completed our boot camp classes we will have to check out these classes and see if they are similar. Just 17 more classes to go! Sheesh!
